About
I’m Matt Baker, an Educational Psychologist based in Devon – thanks for your interest. The site you’re viewing is currently under construction – as with any building site, please look out for hazards, wear your hard hat at all times, and take care to avoid slips, trips and falls.
Besides detailing my services, the purpose of this site is to signpost to and share resources (particularly resources I’ve created over the years) and, in the fullness of time, to explore some alternative approaches to intervention and practice.
As well as being a qualified Educational Psychologist and Secondary Teacher I‘m an Outdoor Instructor who’s completed training in various therapeutic approaches, and whose journey into Psychology began partly through working therapeutically with young people through the medium of Outdoor Education. I’m also an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) trainer who places great value on the role of nurture and, where appropriate, the practical teaching of social and emotional literacy skills in schools, a focus which has become all the more important given the mental health impact of the pandemic.
Alongside offering the traditional range of psychological services (consultation, training, assessment, etc) to schools, colleges and other settings, I’m always interested in exploring other approaches, particularly those that draw on the possibilities for insight, change and challenge offered by outdoor activities.
Whether you’re a setting seeking psychological support for children and young people, or an individual for whom that strikes a chord, please feel free to get in touch – I’m always happy to exchange ideas.
